As with the kickback stand, it helps if your dog has done some rear foot targeting, but it isn’t essential as you can lure them into position then lure them into a forward stretch to start. If they have a cue’d bow/stretch/bend (whatever you call it) you can do those as well with rear feet up. Don’t worry if they don’t stretch too far forward or don’t get too low as every dog, like people, has different levels of flexibility. Also note here i used a 4-6″ step. Depending on your dog’s size and flexibility this may be as high as you go. I also use a 24″ wooden box as both of my dogs are pretty flexible so are able to do it from a higher platform, but it is not necessary. Work with the dog in front of you and keep it safe!
